How Rolesville began
Rolesville takes its name from William H. Roles, who bought land in the area and settled here, and the North Carolina Legislature incorporated the town on January 18, 1837, more than forty years before Wake Forest was incorporated. After the charter, Rolesville became a stagecoach stop, and Rolesville Baptist Church was founded around the same time, with Roles playing a part.
The town also gave its name to the ground underneath it. Geologists call the large body of rock below this part of Wake County the Rolesville batholith, and the bedrock still breaks the surface in rocky outcrops inside the town limits and nearby.
